New Landscapes and Reclamations Series
My most recent work explores the dynamic relationship between our culture, the built environment, and individual experience The last series, Reclamations, supplanted urban billboard and other advertising space with dramatic and surreal skies. The most recent project, New Landscapes, explores the interaction between nature and human construction in suburban and rural areas.

Each image in the New Landscapes series began with a search for odd and uncomfortable juxtapositions. Digital techniques helped craft a new reality by extending and reformatting the sky. The tall aspect ratio, based on the golden rectangle, creates pressure on the sliver of landscape below. Although the imagery relied heavily on digital intervention, the final print looks natural and lacks the patina of digital “effects.”

If “space has tonality…a sound character alternating with the tones of space, narrow and high, with graduating silver, light to darkness,”* Then what do those photographed- spaces sound like?
