Brief History of Silicon Gallery Back in 1993 Michal Smith and Rick De Coyte moved into a new storefront location in Old City Philadelphia. Rick and Michal had been involved in the computer graphics arts industry since it's infancy in 1982 and finding themselves with a storefront location in the center of the arts district they did what anyone would do, open a digital art gallery! Since those early and exciting beginnings Silicon Gallery has had over 100 shows of digital works in the gallery and not just limited to digital prints. We have shown sculpture, quilts, video, including live interactive TV from France, and a host of other art objects that fit within our mission, to show "Art created on or influenced by the computer" Now, in 2003 it seems commonplace, digital camera's are quickly replacing film, and it seems everyone has a web site and is touched by the digital revolution in some way. While we have kept our mission, in 2003 we have decided to focus on digital printmaking and more specifically some of the fine work coming from our sponsors Silicon gallery Fine Art Prints - our very own digital printmakers (click the link below for more information). This year we have shown, and will continue to show, works on paper that use the computer as a tool to create work that could not have been realized by traditional means.
