Papers and other Substrates

Unlike more modern printers. the beauty of the IRIS 3047 is that it can print on practically anything we can wrap around the drum. Materials that we have used successfully for either direct or indirect prints include the following:

  • Papers: Rayon, silk, rice and parchment
  • Fabrics: Polyester, silk and cotton
  • Plastics: Lexan, mylar and polyester
  • Miscellaneous: Leather, foil, mesh and wood veneer

We were asked to print on sandpaper but since the ink nozzles are $750 each (there are four of them) we thought better of it!

Our standard in-house archival materials are as follows:

  • Somerset Radiant White Velvet - 330 gsm
100% cotton, acid-free and mold made. This is a bright white paper that gives a sharp image with brilliant color and a smooth texture. Sheet size is 35 x 46.75 inches.
  • Lyson Smooth (Hahnemuhle German Etch and Photo-Rag)- 310 gsm
100% rag, acid-free machine-made paper. These are bright white papers that give a very sharp image with deep blacks and very saturated color. Sheet size is 35 x 46.75 inches
  • Canvas
100% cotton. Our canvas is pre-coated to give a brilliant, semi-glossy sharp image. This is available 42" wide by unlimited length.

We are always testing new, and old, coated and uncoated watercolor papers.

Lexan, mylar and high-resolution glossy stocks are available upon request. Longevity on these stocks may vary.

We have many samples of different kinds of paper and other substrates, call to make and appointment to check them out. (888-ART PRIN)
